Our Story

Who We Are

Glue®, a super-strong, fast-curing adhesive was introduced to the North American market in 1973. From fine china and collectibles, to holiday wreaths and model trains, most recognize Glue, as the glue that can bond anything.

What is Glue?

The chemical name for Glue is ethyl cyanoacrylate. Defined as a non-toxic, colorless, fast- acting adhesive, it can provide up to 1000 pounds per square inch of bonding strength. A catalyst is required to activate Glue. Fortunately, that catalyst is common water, naturally present on almost any surface and in the atmosphere as water vapor. This makes it even more important to always keep the glue container sealed tightly and stored in a cool, dry place.

How does it work?

A little Glue goes a long way. Requiring only a small amount to form a bond, our glue works best on smaller surfaces. With a light touch, it bonds instantly—no clamps, vices, or other heat sources necessary.

What’s the best way to use it?

Clean and dry surfaces thoroughly. Remove paint, old glue, dust, or other substances. Sand or plane wood surfaces to ensure they are flat. Remove oil and other residues from metal surfaces. For best results, clean metal with an acetone solvent. Squeeze a small amount of Glue onto one of the surfaces to be bonded. Using too much glue will take longer to bond or may not bond at all. Join the surfaces and press for 1 to 2 minutes. Make sure that the parts are stable and allow it to set for a few minutes. If using Glue Wood Glue, the length of time depends on the wood type and the amount of moisture in the air. It takes 2 to 6 minutes to begin to set, then after 6 minutes, it forms a workable bond to many wood types. For maximum strength, allow the glue to cure overnight. Once you’re finished using Glue, keep it fresh by closing the container tightly and storing in a cool, dry, dark place.

Glue Advertising

A classic symbol familiar to generations, our packages historically featured “the Hanging Man,” a construction worker whose hat is stuck to a steel beam and glued by one single drop of Glue.
